Rankings built on real buyer data.
A plain-language look at how every TopsNShops list is put together — no jargon, just the process.
We start with real buyer data
For every product on a TopsNShops list, we gather its verified rating and review count on Amazon UK. This is real, publicly visible buyer data — not a number we’ve picked or estimated.
A track record matters more than a handful of five-star reviews
A product with a strong rating built on a long, consistent history of buyer feedback has demonstrated something a product with only a handful of enthusiastic early reviews hasn’t — even if the two share the same star rating on the surface.
So rather than ranking purely by star rating, we weigh each product’s rating against the depth of feedback behind it. A product needs a genuinely broad and consistent base of satisfied buyers to reach our higher trust tiers — a few excellent reviews alone won’t do it.
Every product lands in one of five trust tiers
Once that analysis is complete, each product is placed into one of five bands, from the strongest buyer consensus to the weakest that still qualifies for a list:
Only products meeting a minimum trust bar make it onto a list at all — every product you see has genuinely qualified, none are included just to fill out a Top 10.
Then a real person reads the reviews
The numbers tell us how confident buyers are overall, but they don’t tell us why. So for every list, a real person reads a genuine sample of buyer reviews for each product and notes the patterns that come up again and again — a pocket that’s smaller than expected, a feature buyers consistently praise, a detail that changes who a product is actually best suited to.
Those human-read patterns are folded into the Pros, Cons, and “Who it’s for” notes on every product card, alongside what we know about its features and specification. That’s what “Human-analysed reviews” in the stats above each list refers to — a person reading real reviews and shaping the write-up around what buyers are actually saying, not just the score.
What TopsNShops is — and isn’t
TopsNShops is a comparison and curation site. We analyse real buyer data and read genuine review patterns to help you compare options faster — we don’t buy, physically test, or unbox every product ourselves. This is the same model used by many established comparison sites, and we think it’s an honest and useful way to help you shop, as long as it’s described accurately. So we do: nothing on this site implies hands-on testing that didn’t happen.
No paid placements, ever
A product’s position on a list is never for sale. See our Affiliate Disclosure for how we earn from the Amazon links on this site, and why that has no bearing on rankings.
Lists stay current
Every list is re-checked roughly every six months — prices, review counts, and trust tiers are refreshed, and any product withdrawn from sale is replaced. If something changes sooner (a product goes out of stock, for example), we update sooner.
